I got to meet….Mirja Vehkaperä! Yesterday, at my high school teaching internship,  one of Finland’s top politicians walked in to discuss the school’s 50th anniversary celebration.  Pretty cool, huh?

Jessie and I watched a moving documentary on the street children in Romania. The film touched us so much so that we decided to make a change. We began a fundraiser in the beginning of April, collecting bottles and cans from student apartments to take to the grocery stores to turn in for money. Using the money that the bottles and cans return, we will send a mass donation to support the City of Hope Romanian street children’s center. This center helps to educate, medicate, feed, clothe and bathe street children.

As of today, we have raised a total of: 132.58 Euros!!!! Praise the Lord for that! So keep our fundraiser in your prayers and consider making a donation to this center that brings hope to a society group in need.

Direct donations can be made online at this website:

I found this imagine online this morning. It depicts how I have felt the last two days. I have been sick in bed with a fever, sore throat and a runny nose..all the while, it’s 60 F outside and everybody is celebrating the Labor Day weekend picnicking in the parks in the city center! :( It’s lame because it’s my second to last weekend in Oulu before going home and I can’t do anything but lie around. Ok, I am done whining now.

I enjoyed my SECOND sushi night a few weeks ago (in my entire life)! I have tried several different types of sushi (even in different countries) a lot of times previous to my exchange. Every time I try it, it’s so bad that I literally cannot even get myself to swallow it and spit it in the trash can. Go figure. Tastebuds are crazy little things. Love it now :)

A gorgeous day in Oulu’s city center with Jessie, Samantha, Andrea, Joanna and Cheech. The Finn’s are out, the outdoor seating is out and the sun is out= HURRAY

Easter weekend in Oulu <3

57 degrees F in Oulu, Finland

Greetings from Oulu!

As my time wraps up here in Finland (where did it go!?), I am trying to get caught up on all of my picture uploading. I apologize for my slowness the last few weeks but school takes priority over blogging. Believe it or not, this website is VERY slow for uploading images compared to other sites like Facebook. But, it’s free, so no complaining allowed. Anyways, I plan to put up some Easter pictures later today or tomorrow, so be on the lookout for that.

I just had to post because I just opened my bedroom window for fresh air and saw a Finnish woman walking her dog with a strapless top and capris! It’s 57 degrees and it is summer heat here in the near-Arctic Circle! haha It’s mind blowing. What’s even more mind blowing, is that I only find her partially crazy because I am no longer wearing coats, gloves or boots in the day time. I may even wear a tee-shirt before leaving Finland! I am interested to see how easily breathing comes when I inhale my first breath of North Carolina summer humidity. Should be interesting! However, I am very much looking forward to family, friends, shorts and tee shirts, sweet tea, BBQ and sweet southern accents again!

Love from Oulu,

Kristina

Tallinn, Estonia. Did you see the heart shaped gravel that I found inside of a cobblestone?
